Hi hello bookish friends. I’ve been kind of behind on my arc reading list lately, and wow did arc august come at a very convenient time. I’m going to ignore all the books currently glaring at me from my bookshelf and suspend all my library holds for the next couple of weeks just so I can read as many of my arc as possible.
I guess at the end of the month we’ll see how many that actually is. Crossing my fingers I break 10 books this month *pls*
I kind of have read a couple books already this month some arcs, some library books. You’ll only be hearing about the arcs here!
The Merciful Crow | Margaret Owen
Release Date: July 30th, 2019
Ugh I tried to read this before publication, but my body was seriously rejecting fantasy after I finished Darkdawn (wah). I believe if I stuff enough romance/contemporary/thrillers into my brain I will be in the mood for this and finally read it! Based on how far I’m in now, I know it involves castes named after birds and each caste given a different magical gift. Except the crows. The crows are given the ability to steal the magic of the other castes through their teeth. oOOooOh. They’re also the only group to be immune from the death sickness going around. It’s very mysterious and I am oh so intrigued.
Hello Girls | Brittany Cavallaro & Emily Henry
Release Date: August 6th, 2019
Why yes, this book was just published. And no, I have not yet read it. I began the first page or so last month and really wasn’t feeling it. After seeing other bookish creator’s talk about how it wasn’t really for them either did not make we want to pick it up again. I am planning on giving it another chance to see if it will change my mind *crosses fingers* I love my girl Emily Henry, and I really really want to love this one
Serpent & Dove | Shelby Mahurin
Release Date: September 3rd, 2019
Ohh look at that gorgeous cover. I don’t know much about this plot, but I have an inkling it’s going to involve some forbidden romance? I’m pretty sure it surrounds an age old war between witches and the church. and Something tells me two people from either side are going to bridge that divide HMMM I guess we’ll see, eh?
Well Met | Jen DeLuca
Release Date: September 3rd, 2019
I just finished this book yesterday and *oh* my heart. It’s set in a small town surrounding their summer Renaissance Faire and oH MY god. It was adorable and immediately had me looking up Ren Faires in my area lmao. Basically these two people kind of hate each other irl but tend to act a little flirty when they’re in their Ren Faire characters OOF it was juicy
Don’t You Forget About Me | Mhairi McFarlane
Release Date: September 10th, 2019
Hello, nice to see you again. I have now become a romance fiend. I recently won this in a Goodreads Giveaway (woohoo!) and I’m so excited to dive in. I know it involves a second-chance romance and that’s pretty much all I need to know to be interested. Crossing my fingers it ends up blowing me away
Gideon the Ninth | Tamsyn Muir
Release Date: September 10th, 2019
Possibly one of the most hyped books on this list? I’ve only heard good things about this one, and I can’t believe I haven’t read it yet. It’s got necromancers, it’s got f/f romance. Yup, that’s pretty much all I need to know. It looks super dark and super queer and I’m here for it.
The Tenth Girl | Sara Faring
Release Date: September 24th, 2019\
The only thing I read from the synopsis was “psychological thriller with a haunting twist” and I was in. I haven’t read a good thriller in a minute, and a good YA thriller *ever???* so here’s to hoping this is the first!
The Grace Year | Kim Liggett
Release Date: October 8th, 2019
I just started this book and am currently figuring out what exactly it is about. Based on what I know so far, it seems to be giving me major Handmaid’s Tale vibes. Possibly also near-future The Giver vibes? Definitely some sort of dystopian future where men control women and women are seen as threats based on their *magic* which I’m pretty sure is just their femininity. I’m already very intrigued and can’t wait to see where this story goes.
Mooncakes | Suzanne Walker, Wendy Xu
Release Date: October 15th, 2019
Not going to lie, I really don’t know what this graphic novel is about. I’m pretty sure it involves a witch and a werewolf and is probably very queer. That’s literally all I know. And I am very excited. Omg it looks adorable and I can’t wait for my heart to be warmed.
Not The Girl You Marry | Andie J. Christopher
Release Date: November 12th, 2019
I may have already read this book and I may have fallen in love with it. If you don’t know anything about this one, oh BOY am I excited to tell you. This is basically a role-reversal of How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Aka in this situation the man is a journalist who’s writing a story about what not to do in a relationship and the girl has to make a man fall in love with her for her job. Oh my GAH. If you loved the movie, you will love this one. Guaranteed
