Wow. Another end to another year. I’m not going to lie, this was not my best reading year. This year was filled with some amazing books and also some duds. I didn’t read any books for about 3 months this summer because I was too busy reading fanfiction lmao. However, I still was able to find some amazing books and even some new favorites!
There were so many good books that came out this year, and I definitely didn’t read any many as I was hoping to. That just means that I have even more books to read in 2025!
Below are some of my favorite books I read in 2024. This means they either surprised me, made me feel something, or were just simply well-written! If you’re thinking about reading any of the books below, I would 100% recommend them, and many of them can be found on Kindle Unlimited! If you have any book recommendations for me, please leave them in the comments! 🙂

The Shepherd King Duet | Rachel Gillig
This series was so unexpectedly good. I don’t know what I was expecting, but this really exceeded my expectations. The worldbuilding is so atmospheric and interesting. The magic system is unique but still easy to understand. The first book was good, but the second book really solidified this duology as one of the best books of 2024. The ending just really comes through!
Throne of the Fallen | Kerri Maniscalco
This was another read that I was pleasantly surprised by this year! I had no idea what it was about going in, but ended up completely loving it. It involves a mysterious game, magic, devils, and fae. If you’ve read Kingdom of the Wicked, this is a loose standalone sequel! I know that series follows the King of Wrath, while this book is about the King of Envy. It’s sexy, mysterious, and just a little bit dark. Would definitely recommend!
Phantasma | Kaylie Smith
This is a little spooky romance that I would describe as horror Caraval. If you’re into ghosts and witches and also loved the game aspect of Caraval, this is 100% the book for you. I will say this book gets pretty dark and involves quite a lot of violence, some gore, and also some spooky situations. Also, for any of my Danny Phantom girlies out there, the mmc is a phantom <3
Quicksilver | Callie Hart
Probably my favorite romantasy I read all year! Hence why I’m adding it to my best books of 2024. I’m not going to lie, I didn’t have high hopes for this one based on the cover lmao. But this was just so freaking good! it involves fae, vampires, and fated mates. The mmc wields shadow magic and hates our fmc from the first moment they meet. What more could you even ask for?
Stormlight Archive | Brandon Sanderson
This was maybe my most ambitious goal of the year. I did want to read all 5 books, but unfortunately, I only finished the first two. Despite these books being a million words long, they are just so easy to read and relatively fast-paced. If you’re into high fantasy, I would be surprised if you haven’t already read these books. They are beautifully written and masterfully plotted. 100% recommend.
Mistborn Trilogy |Brandon Sanderson
This series is so freaking good! Probably one of the coolest magic systems I’ve ever read and definitely makes the list of best books of the year. It involves ingesting metals and “burning” them for power. So freaking cool. The main characters are sick. The villains are complex and interesting to follow. Watching the ending come together at the end of the third book felt like I was ascending to the heavens lmao. If you’re not super into fantasy, but you want to give it a try, I definitely recommend this series!
The Crimson Moth | Kristen Ciccarelli
This was such a fun series! I really enjoyed the first book, but the second book in the series really solidified it being a favorite for the year. This series is about a witch and a witch hunter. Romance (and some hatred) ensues. The characters were really well written in this one. Even when I was pissed at their decisions, I understood why they made them. I was lucky enough to get a review copy from Wednesday Books and I’m so happy I was able to read the conclusion to this duology! The ending came together beautifully and if you’re a fan of enemies-to-lovers romances, this is definitely one for you.
Hunter x Hunter | Yoshihiro Togashi
This is probably my favorite anime series of all time. I started reading the manga because Togashi started releasing new chapters again this year!! This is such a cool and intricate story about friends, family, cool powers, and some really fucked up villains lmao. I definitely recommend both watching the anime and reading the manga. It is a long journey, but the journey is most definitely worth it.
Slaying the Vampire Conqueror | Carissa Broadbent
This is another book in the Crowns of Nyaxia series. This story takes place on another continent, not under the rule of the vampires. Our fmc is super cool and has her own magic given to her by a different deity of the world. While our mmc is a vampire who’s arrived to conquer her land. The story was really cool in this one and I loved seeing different parts within the same world. I loved our characters, I loved the story, and I loved the romance. Hard to go wrong with Carissa Broadbent tbh
Funny Story | Emily Henry
My queen Emily Henry released another new book this year! It definitely deserves to be added to my best books of 2024. Truly, I’m going to love anything she puts out, but I really did enjoy this one. It’s about two people whose fiances leave them for their respective partners. They end up moving in together and … things happen. The title is definitely a play on “So, how did you guys meet?” “Well, it’s kind of a funny story…” The setting really scratched my quaint small-town romance itch. Can’t wait for whatever she releases next!
Haikyuu | Haruichi Furudate
Omg this series is so freaking good. Both the anime and the manga have made me cry on multiple occasions lmao. Even if you’re not super into sports, I would still recommend this one. It’s more about overcoming obstacles, building friendships and relationships, and self-improvement. The author somehow makes you fall in love with all of the teammates and even their opponents in a 20 minute episode. My heart!!!
