Fake It Till You Break It | A Book Review

Fake It Till You Break It By Jenn P. Nguyun

Summary

Mia and Jake have known each other their whole lives. They’ve endured summer vacations, Sunday brunches, even dentist visits together. Their mothers, who are best friends, are convinced that Mia and Jake would be the perfect couple, even though they can’t stand to be in the same room together.

After Mia’s mom turns away yet another cute boy, Mia and Jake decide they’ve have had enough. Together, they hatch a plan to get their moms off their backs. Permanently. All they have to do is pretend to date and then stage the worst breakup of all time—and then they’ll be free.

The only problem is, maybe Jake and Mia don’t hate each other as much as they once thought…

My Review ★★★★☆

If you’ve read the summary of this book, you probably know exactly how it’s going to go. And it’s glorious. I was in a reading slump (too many books with expansive magic systems) and this was a book to pull be back to the surface.

It was cute. It was fun. It had some *fans face* great kissing scenes. Will you be surprised by some major plot twists? Probably not. And sometimes that’s just okay. This book really doesn’t rely on any type of shock factor to be entertaining.

If I’m remembering correctly, I sped through this whole thing in a day. It was the perfect pace for a fake relationship, “hate-to-love” contemporary romance.

It has some great “but, wait! what is this tugging feeling in my heart??? I hate them….” which is so obviously untrue to us readers, but somehow never gets old. I could read that sentence a million times in a million different scenarios and it would hit just as hard every single time. Call me an intellectual.

If you’re a fan of ya romance from the likes of Kasie West and Maurene Goo, you’re bound to like this one. Please read it! Bask this is glorious romance sunshine!
