Welcome fellow readers to my tbr for the biannual bibliothon! Woot woot. To be frank, I had never heard of nor participated in this readathon before, so this will be my first year. As I do not make booktube videos, I will not be participating in any of the video challenges and instead will post all the books I plan to read this week here!
I kind of already had my July TBR set for the month, so I tried to work my way around the reading challenges to fit everything in that I could. Luckily for me, the challenges aren’t super strict, and I have picked books that fit pretty well into each of them.
As the readathon started yesterday, I am a bit behind but fear not! I shall succeed despite starting a day behind! I’ve picked books that I’ve either been meaning to read for ages or are so so excited to speed through them, so I’m not worried about falling behind (I’ve even finished one already.)
If you want to see all the books I plan to read this week, continue below.
Read The Group Book
The Wicked Deep | Shea Ernshaw
Okay, so this is the only book on the list that I’m a little skeptical whether I’ll get to it this week. I’d never heard of it before watching everyone’s TBR’s, but if I have the time and motivation, I’ll do my best.
I kind of forgot all what this book was about. I think it involves witches? I’m a big fan of Hocus Pocus and all things involving witches, covens, the occult, so it is right up my street.
The only problem is I don’t own it and none of the libraries near me have it available. If I have the time, I’ll probably end up downloading an ebook at the last second.
A Book From Someone Else’s TBR
Flame In The Mist | Renée Ahdieh
So, I recently checked this book out from the library because I heard someone raving about it on booktube. I can’t remember exactly who it was, but they were pretty excited about it. Therefore, I am also pretty excited about it.
I know it involves a daughter of a samurai who was born and raised to be married off. The thing is, she’s just as smart and cunning as her brother, but because she’s a girl none of that matters.
On her way to meet her future husband, a clan of bandits attempts to murder her. As the lone survivor, she escapes to the woods and begins to plan her revenge. (ooOooOoOoh) She disguises herself as a peasant boy and plans to infiltrate the very group who tried to murder her.
It sounds like it’s going to be full of suspense, danger, and a whole lot of fun.
Try The First Chapter of 3 Books and Pick 1
The Apocolypse of Elena Mendoza | Shaun David Hutchinson
So, I may have cheated a little bit for this challenge. I did choose 3 books. (The Apocolypse of Elena Mendoza, Girl Made of Stars, and Undead Girl Gang) I did read a chapter from each of them. (All fantastic) And I did choose one to use for this challenge. (Tadaaa!)
However. I’m still going to be reading the other 2 books under different reading challenges… oops! I loved them all so much that I just couldn’t choose one.
I’ve read We Are The Ants by Shaun David Hutchinson before and loved it. I think this book is going to be the same.
After reading the first chapter, we know that Elena was born from a virgin pregnancy, different inanimate objects, animals, etc, speak to her on a regular basis, and (I’m assuming) there is some sort of apocalypse that she must prevent? start? save? Not too sure.
We know that “the end of the world” happens at a Starbucks where Elena is trying to muster up the courage to speak to her crush, Freddie, when a boy straight up shoots her (the crush, not Elena.) And then, Elena heals her! HEALS HER! With her hands!
That was the end of chapter 1, and I am very very excited to continue.
Read A Book That Has Been On Your TBR For Over A Year
Slade House | David Mitchell
So, I was browsing the fantasy, sci fi, and mystery shelves at my library one day when I came across this book. It looked very cool and mysteries, and I knew I had either seen or heard of it before so I picked it up.
Turns out it had been on my Goodreads tbr since 2016! WOW! I straight up remember nothing about why or when I decided to put this on there, but here we are.
So, I’m going to be truthful with you. I picked up this book this morning and read through it straight it one sitting. Alas, I am already finished with it.
I’m not going to give my review here (I’ll save it for my monthly wrap-up) but it was somewhere between okay and good.
I think if you’re planning on reading this book, it’s best to go in knowing nothing about it so I will be telling you nothing of the plot!
Read A Predicted 5 Star Read
Undead Girl Gang | Lily Anderson
I am so so SO excited to read this book this week. I’ve waited long enough. There’s just something about books you know you’re going to love where I don’t want to read them to put off them being over. Is that irrational? I’m not sure.
I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about this book and I can’t wait to find out what delicious stories lie inside.
I know this book involves witchcraft and bringing back people from the dead. And most importantly, it involves some bffs which are my favorite kinds of stories.
Ugh the cover just looks SO COOL and I’m so looking forward to starting this book.
Read An Own Voices That Is Different Than You
Six Of Crows | Leigh Bardugo
This is yet another book that has been on my tbr for far too long. I read the Grisha series earlier this year, and I’ve been putting off reading this duology mostly because I just don’t want to be done with reading stories from this world!
When I was looking for a book that matched the challenge as well as my July TBR, I scoured the own voices Goodreads listopedia and found Six of Crows. I had no idea that this book was own voices or how exactly it fits into it.
Turns out, Bardugo wrote her main character, Kaz, to share her disability. “It’s not a coincidence that he walks with a cane and I walk with a cane,” Bardugo said. I don’t read enough books about or involving characters with disabilities, so I’m looking forward to learning more.
I know this book involves a heist with some morally grey characters and now some own voices disability representation. Can’t wait.
Read The Last Book You Bought
Girl Made Of Stars | Ashley Herring Blake
I recently downloaded this ebook after hearing raving reviews from some of my favorite booktubers. I know it involves a girl and her twin brother who is accused of raping her friend.
She has to navigate this situation in where she wants to believe her friend and she wants to believe in her brother. But she knows her brother wouldn’t do it and she knows her friend wouldn’t lie.
I know already that this book is going to tear me to pieces. It’s not going to be an easy read, but it’s going to be so worth it.
